These tips are designed for those that have to go to certain places at certain times (eg. business travellers) but like to get the best deal (not get ripped off).

  • 1 - Booking Flights : The easiest way to book is obviously using websites such as expedia, ebookers, travelocity and so on. Many of these use the same database to find you the relevant airlines and prices and the only difference between them is a few pounds, depending on what commission their system is set up to make. I find Expedia is usually cheapest.

But you should consider trying some airline's websites direct as they may have some special deals.

You should also try lastminute.com they sometimes offer good package deals which may fit in with your plans

  • 2 - Booking Flights : Often one way tickets are bad value for money being similar in price to the return and even sometimes more expensive. For example a one way ticket flying out Monday to New York could be £650 but you can get a return ticket, flying out on the same Monday but then coming back 7 days later for £400. Of course you don't have to use the return leg !

  • 3 - Booking Flights : Staying a saturday night will often save hundreds of pounds !

  • 4 - Booking Flights : So bearing in mind points 2 and 3 it can work out cheaper to book two returns, especially if you want to fly out on a Monday and back on a Friday in the same week ! Use one going one way and one going the other. Proabably best not to use the same airline (I don't) but i expect they won't do anything even if you do.

  • 5 - If you book the flight and the hotel together you can sometimes get a cheaper price for the flight. Try it on expedia. Once I have even got a flight and hotel package which was £200 cheaper than just the flight on it own ! Again you don't even have to stay in the hotel if you don't want to.
